Article: Tired of Fighting?

U.S. Envoy Says He Met With Iraq Rebels - New York Times

The photo above is pulled from the NYT. I'm always intrigued at the photo choice of the NYT Editors, clearly they wish to convey more than just a photo of the U.S. Ambassador of Iraq. The name tape on his armor reads "THE MAN," think what you will about that. While I have never met Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad I'm guessing this is a super energetic man who's charisma can be felt by those around him. Of course, the NYT shows a photo of an exhausted man, taken in context with the article, one can infer helplessness and maybe even a bit of despair. A photo of a Humvee is well framed though the bullet proof glass of his SUV.
The article itself talks about meeting with insurgents, or really warlords, more moderate insurgents though. While this seems like a bad thing, that we would have to stoop to this, really, it is the way of things in the Middle East and it is encouraging that one can read about it in open media. Progress through diplomacy, perhaps.
