On Paradise Drive: How We Live Now, David Brooks

Simply magnificent account of how American have come to hold our values as we do. Americans value hard work, reward, uber-achievement, and always have. It is our nature and it was fantastic to stop and reflect on why we work so hard and desire to transcend our current existence. Why we like to pick up a glamour magazine and dream of being glamorous, pick of a kitchen magazine and dream of our dreamy, immaculate, kitchen. Worth a reread simply to reflect. Happened across this book in an airport book story and figured that since I had always enjoyed David Brooks’ columns in the New York Times I might enjoy a book; indeed I did.
